Nita Rudra

 

I am a Professor in the Department of Government at Georgetown University.  My research interests are in the area of international political economy and comparative political economy with a focus on developing economies, poverty, trade, foreign investment, human development, welfare politics, taxation, democracy, international organizations, and the environment.

My most recent book is entitled Democracies in Peril: Taxation and Redistribution in Globalizing Economies coauthored with Ida Bastiaens (Cambridge University Press 2018).

I was a recipient of the Fulbright-Nehru Foundation Academic Fellowship at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore India, and an International Affairs Fellow of Council on Foreign Relations at the World Bank.

Research Interests

The political economy of trade and capital flows; international development, the anti-globalization backlash, political economy of inequality,  analyzing broad principles of institutional design (related to redistribution) in developing countries; globalization and informality; democratization; preferences for redistribution, south-south trade, globalization and taxation.
